This was happening mostly on the east coast, while professional football was stealing the show in the Midwest. The American Professional Football Association was founded in Ohio with the famous athlete Jim Thorpe as president. It started with eleven teams and was not really a league. The main goal was to stop cheating players of other teams to win football.

With the birth of the NFL, the rules became more strict and the rules began to be enforced. However, the teams continued to move in and out at the same pace. It was in the 1970s and 1980s that NFL football finally found its place in the heart and culture of America as the most important football event in the country. The Super Bowl, the name given to the final game in the NFL series, became an unofficial but official national holiday.

What imprinted NFL football on the heart of every American was the cult it created. It wasn’t just the games that mattered; it was a whole event, entertainment, TV shows and everything that added to the beauty of the football series. To add to the glitz, the NFL introduced a pre-season exhibition game. And to add flavor to the game, the NFL decided to play with other countries. These became known as American Bowls.

In 1991, it created the World League of American Football with developmental goals. The organization, now known as NFL Europa, has teams in Germany and the Netherlands. In 2003, the NFL League launched its own television channel, the NFL Network.
