2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Venues – Rustenburg
The countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa has begun in earnest and excitement has begun to descend on the stadiums as football fans around the world look to see where their favorite teams will begin the journey they all hope will lead to the Finals in Soccer City in Johannesburg on July 11.
Rustenburg is a city of over 400,000 people in South Africa’s North West Province at the foot of the Magaliesburg Mountains. Home to the Bafokeng tribe, the area is rich in resources, especially platinum. Nearby is the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, the fourth largest National Park in South Africa which is home to South African wildlife including lions, elephants, white and black rhinos, buffalo, leopards and zebras. If wildlife isn’t your thing then Rustenburg is 30km from Sun City, South Africa’s leading holiday destination, with plenty of fun and relaxing opportunities. Sunny all year round, the temperature at the World Cup should be around 16°C but cool at night due to the 1500m altitude.
The new Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg with a capacity of 42,000 will host five Group Matches including one Round of 16 match between June 12 and June 26. First England and USA, Group C match scheduled for 20:30 on June 12. New Zealand and Slovakia play their Group F match at 13:30 on June 15. On June 19 at 16:00 is the Group D match between Ghana and Australia. The South American Group A match between Mexico and Uruguay will take place at 16:00 on June 22. The final Group A match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium will see Denmark face Japan on June 24 at 20:30. Two days later on June 26, the Round of 16 match will take place between the winners of Group C and the runners-up in Group D.
