Although the National sport of India is Hockey but Cricket is very popular among the people of India. People follow this game like a religion. Most people cannot name the Captain of Indian Hockey Team but they know the name of the player who is playing his first match in cricket. Fortunately or unfortunately, since Indians cannot excel in any other sport except cricket, hence the pressure is on them to win almost every sport they can. Be it the media, corporate houses, politicians, everyone likes to interact with the game in some way.
Again, we are in those days, where life will stand still. People will leave their office. There will be many conflicts and arguments between husband and wife on TV. Yes, there will be a Cricket World Cup to be held in the West Indies in the first half of this year. Although there will be 16 teams competing in the world cup, the main contenders in the world cup are: Australia, England, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Westindies, South Africa, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe.

Memories of the National Finals
The memories of the last world cup held in South Africa in the year 2003, are still fresh in people’s minds and why the Indian team did not reach the final of the cup after 20 years. Even in the final, we lost completely to Australia. Everyone played to the best of their abilities but failed to make it through the final stage. But who would you rather blame? We should not blame any external reason, not even our society but “we, the people of India” and most importantly… our Visual Media.
Among the readers of this article, how many of us can work under pressure? How many of us can do better, when we expect more? How many have won well, when there is so much running? I don’t think any of you can give a good answer. So, what do you expect from a group that is almost 27 years old, when there was the pressure of expectations of 100 crore people? Yes, our team failed and succumbed to the pressures and stress.
The Role of the Media in the 2003 World Cup and Expectations in the 2007 World Cup
Whenever there is a cricket match, involving Team India, our NEWS Channel gets daily feed. He can’t help but appreciate our players being in the studio; criticizing the behavior of other players; go ga-ga over other people’s work and make similar gratuitous, illogical and illogical comparisons. This is what happened last time. Some of the sports reporter leading NEWS Channels , such as Star News, NDTV, Aajtak et al, went to the houses of the team players … interacted with their relatives; they brought Astrologers, Numerologists and all such people to their studios and did nothing, except promote the group. Let’s not make those mistakes again. Let’s keep our celebrations to ourselves until the last ball is dropped. We have a great opportunity and one of our best chances to win this world cup.
There is a lot of pressure, when people are playing in front of a lot of people. There is unnecessary pressure when someone represents their country at that level. There is pressure to do well… to win… to win the world. Therefore, all my fellow Journalists please, do not encourage our team, being in the studios; Do not give our players that additional worries and conflicts. In other words, please don’t do anything you don’t want others to do to you.
Even after 60 years of independence, we are still considered a “Developed Country”. We have to do many other things. There are many areas to consider. There is a lot of work to be done to become a “Developed Nation”. Let’s focus on that.
India, a country of 100 crores, is not about 5000 odd politicians, some 300 amazing movie winners and some 30 cricketers. India is much more than that. However, there are villages that do not have electricity; there are areas where there are no hospitals, no schools, and no educational facilities. There are people who live in the slums, in the basements, they don’t have enough means to get three meals a day. Let’s focus on that. Let’s bring the attention of the powerful and famous to such matters.
