EBSCO Entertainment introduced foosball to America by shipping two German tables. But a few years later they started making their own line of official tables and called it the Vulcan Fussball Table. Several foosball table manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon. This list includes Irving Kaye Sales Corporation, which released their table in 1969.

The game caught on with many followers and fans. And when the game became popular, competitions were happening left and right. In the United States, the first professional foosball tournament was held in 1979, and $250,000 was at stake. The event was called the World Championships, which also marked the emergence of the highest level foosball league. European and German leagues competed in the early 1950s. However, there was no established organization for the top performers at that time.

Currently, foosball is hitting not only the West but the whole world. The best players are now coming out of countries like North Africa, the Middle East, South America, Tahiti, and Australia. Argentina and Japan are on the verge of winning the World Cup.

In the United States alone, there are approximately 1.9 million players enjoying the game. The game’s evolution from a casual indoor game to a professional game with millions in prize money at stake has contributed to its popularity.
