Greatest Football Games Of All Time
While I’ve been waiting a long time for FIFA 12 to arrive, I’ve created and reviewed the best football (or soccer if you prefer) game of all time. The chosen games have been chosen for different reasons, you may agree with my choices, you may not agree with them, but chances are that each list will be different in shape or form.
1. FIFA list
Back in 1993 when the first FIFA game was released the graphics and animations of the game were a million miles away from the vivid movements of the players and the faces we have come to expect. You just moved a small piece around the green circle. Looking back and comparing it to our current game, you tell yourself what we think. But knowing we had hours of fun is what made FIFA for me! What has gone well over the years? Other than that, the face and menu design gets better every year, and faster than its old sluggishness. FIFA introduced the manager mode and the final team version recently and it seems to be having a big impact on FIFA. In the game, the graphics and the game engine have changed a lot. What’s wrong? In my opinion nothing has gotten worse it just needs to be changed and improved, for example wind control and ball control has not happened yet but I am sure it will soon. Over the years you can tell they’ve jumped a huge gap, you can tell who you’re playing and it looks like you’re watching TV.
2. Championship manager
Championship Manager is a series of international football management games and it was first released in 1992. The release of the first version of the game was not very successful due to the ignorance of people in such games, and the sales were not stable and not astronomical. However, this changed soon and today the renamed Football Manager franchise now has an army of volunteers, including myself, who live, breathe and sleep Championship Manager (much to the chagrin of family, friends and everyone who knows you! ). For me, it was Championship Manager 99/00 that sparked my interest. The simplicity of managing your favorite team was a breath of fresh air; Being able to bring in the best players you wish your manager could sign while nurturing your favorite players was a huge part of my growth. These days the list has reached an incredible depth, with a detailed and accurate matchmaking network used by professional clubs with limited budgets to identify potential changes and opposition players and staff. With the ever-evolving soccer game, and the Championship Manager series that goes with it, I’m just seeing the best time for this type of game- And I love it!
3. PES Series
Pro Evolution Soccer it’s a great game but I’ve always been behind FIFA, except for one year, Pro Evolution Soccer 3, I was impressed with the changes and you can see the developers putting their efforts into this game to make it bigger and better. The Pro Ev 3 used everything the PlayStation had to offer and the graphics and movement of the players we saw were smooth. You no longer feel like you are in a stadium playing on a joystick, you really enjoy FIFA, I had the most fun with this game for the rest of my life when it was released. But in my opinion this was the highest point of the series and it dropped from PES5 onwards.
4. Smart Ball
Sensible Soccer was one of the first soccer games to reach its peak. Although the graphics don’t seem to have come that far since pong compared to the likes of FIFA 12, in the early nineties these little blogs were making progress. The main attraction of Sensible Soccer however was not in the graphics; it was a great game. The fact that anyone could pick up a controller and play the game at a reasonable level, but the game still left room for older players to grow and become masters. But most of all, you had the right names for the players. There’s no reason to cheer for Bryan Goggs on Sensible Soccer.
In this writer’s opinion, despite the virtues of all sports, FIFA stands head and shoulders above the rest. First released in 1993, it has evolved continuously while Pro Evolution may have found its way into the hearts of some gamers for a few years in the late 2000’s, now it is back on top. The new FIFA 12 game is set to break all records and leave its competitors trying to emulate.
