Who Qualifies For the FIFA World Youth Championship 2009?
The football tournament is for players under the age of 20 and this year should be held in Rwanda from 18 January to 1 February 2009.
The eight teams participating this year include Mali, Cameroon, Ghana and Rwanda who form Group A and South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire who form Group B. The players were selected after the Preliminary Round matches which took place from 18 April to 20. April 2008, with the Second Round second legs matches from 2 May to 4 May 2008, followed by the first leg matches held from 27 June to 29 June 2008, the second leg matches from 11 July to 13 July 2009, with the Second Round first leg held from 26 September to 28 September 2008 and the Second Round second leg from 11 October to 13 October.
The top two sides from each pool will advance to the semifinals, which will decide the four nations to qualify for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which will be held in Egypt in September 2009. The fifth-placed team will qualify for the Under-20 World Cup. 20 as Egypt naturally qualify for the World Cup.

The teams also played to qualify for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. The 2007 African Youth Championship saw Congo become champions in the final against Nigeria, beating them 1-0. This year’s hosts (Rwanda) have to fight like they did last year (Congo) to win the tournament.
With one month to go until the African Youth Championship kicks off in Rwanda, excitement has already begun among thousands of footballers in Rwanda and around the world.
