Nigeria Vs Liberia – 2nd Leg of All African Games Qualifier Preview
Nigeria’s Olympic team known as Dream team V will next weekend play against the Liberia U-23 National football team in the second leg of the All African Games Qualifier. The match will be held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City Nigeria.
The first leg of the match played at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Complex on Saturday April 16, 2011 both sides were tied 1-1 as Nigeria opened the scoring in the 33rd minute of the match through a penalty, after Leicester City player Daniel. Uchechi was insulted in the penalty area. He mustered enough mental energy to convert the opening goal to the delight of a few traveling fans.
Nigerians who were missing their top stars before the match have condemned the ill treatment of the Liberian Football Federation before the match. Nigeria’s Olympic team’s opening goal prompted a surprise response from their Liberian counterpart as they sought to delight the home fans who had come to cheer them on to victory. Singing wasn’t helping their way, because it wasn’t in the best shape.
Their hard work however paid off in the 63rd minute when midfielder Johnson Samuel got the needed level with a stunning header in the 63rd minute of the game. The hosts would have grabbed all three points in the dying minutes of the second half when they were awarded penalties. The hero of South Korea’s U-17 team that won gold in 2007, Oladele Ajiboye pulled through the defense to deny what would have been the winning goal.
However, he was replaced with minutes to go when he was injured by Liberian player Ronaldinho. The referee’s whistle brought revenge to Coach Austin Eguaveon who was frustrated throughout the season. The back-to-back promises to be confusing considering the need to meet the Dream team V aspiration. The U-23 team will have the opportunity to play at home in front of a favorite Nigerian club.
One thing that will help the Dream team is the great talent available on the technical team. Rabiu Ibrahim, Nnamdi Odumadi, Ekigho Ehiosun, Ibok Edet and Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye can start the game which promises to be exciting and exciting. Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomole is expected to be the special guest at the game.
