A lot of people were surprised when Eidur signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2006, especially when he was seen as a replacement for the fan favorite, Henrik Larsen. Originally playing as a striker, he certainly had trouble winning over the Barça faithful and, in his first season, a return of 5 goals in 25 league games led to questions about the player’s suitability for La Liga.

One thing that Eidur Gudjohnsen has always had, however, is proven and it helped him a lot to overcome this problem. Used extensively in midfield, the player showed his versatility and as a result, in 2006/07 and 2007/08, he became an important member of the team. Able to play in a variety of positions, and always able to find a goal, Eidur Gudjohnsen is now a regular player for Barcelona and one that the fans now trust.

Iceland’s goalscorer, with more than 50 international caps, and captain of the national team, Gudjohnsen has been the Icelandic Player of the Year three times.
